Thai Massage brings Happiness

Going to work is so much easier when you get positive feedback daily. Why wouldn’t I want to be a Thai massage practitioner?

This June will mark the fifth anniversary of Sirius Health. Despite COVID and now the high cost of living, I have progressively fallen more and more in love with being a Thai massage practitioner. Over the next three months, I will reflect on a few things I love about being a Thai massage practitioner!

My initial desire to become a Thai massage practitioner was to share this wonderful tradition with people here in Saskatoon. At the end of my sixteen-year IT career, I was suffering from chronic back pain. I was going for massages regularly, but I was not improving. Then our family visited Budapest, and I tried a Thai massage on a whim. I walked away from that first Thai massage in Budapest feeling better than I had in years. This experience changed my life.

The word “massage” is misleading because Traditional Thai massage differs from western traditions. I was completely surprised by my first experience, and now I love witnessing the joy on my client’s faces after their first Thai massage.

Thai massage therapy makes people feel good and enhances their quality of life. I love witnessing the benefits of Thai massage on others. I get to feel my client’s muscles relaxing. I get to see the colour of blood flow returning to their face and skin. I get to hold space for tears and laughter. I get to observe the effects of consistent attention on body areas needing healing. I get to celebrate clients’ progress. And most important, I get to make people happy.

In all the years I did IT, I rarely had a customer tell me how happy they were with whatever I fixed. They were grumpy when they approached me for problems and rarely thanked me for my assistance. Likewise, my experience as a screening officer at the airport is that individuals are generally only sometimes grateful for our service. We are an inconvenience and annoyance.

But almost every customer is happy after a Thai massage. And most clients tell me that they are grateful for the service. Going to work is so much easier when you get positive feedback daily. Why wouldn’t I want to be a Thai massage practitioner?
